SHIATSU AND REIKI TREATMENTS

What Is Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese word meaning “finger pressure”. Shiatsu was developed in Japan in the twentieth century but has its origin in much older Chinese techniques. It is an holistic therapy, working on bringing balance and harmony to body, mind and spirit and helps to prevent stress. When we are healthy, the natural flow of energy (Qi, pronounced “chee”) flows through our bodies in a series of channels or meridians. Imbalances in this natural flow can produce stiffness, pain or illness. 

Shiatsu combines various techniques such as stretching, rocking and holding, with pressure applied using palms, fingers, thumbs, forearms, elbows, knees and feet.

Shiatsu Bodywork Massage

Shiatsu Bodywork is a highly effective system of exercises, stretches and rotations that equalise muscle tone and correct distortions in the posture. It can very effectively eliminate pain in the back, neck or shoulders, and release muscular stiffness or pain anywhere in the body.

It is also excellent for anyone suffering from stress or fatigue and for promoting relaxation.

Shiatsu is carried out on a futon on the floor and you will need to wear loose fitting clothes, a tracksuit is ideal, and socks.  Pressure is applied to the meridians using a combination of massage, pressure, stretching and firm but gentle holding.

I hold a Certificate in Japanese Bodywork from the European Shiatsu School.

Reiki

Reiki is a system of healing originating in Japan and developed by Mikao Usui in the early part of the 20^th century. Reiki is a gentle yet powerful complementary therapy which can be used alongside conventional medicine. Reiki is very relaxing and calming and works on every level – physical, mental, spiritual and emotional. As with Shiatsu, Reiki (pronounced Ray Kee) promotes the natural flow of Ki through the body, restoring balance and harmony. Reiki is translated to Universal Life Energy, the energy which is all around us. Reiki is not a religion and there is no belief system attached, anyone can give Reiki or receive a Reiki treatment.

Reiki is carried out on a couch in a relaxed and soothing atmosphere and the client remains fully clothed. The practitioner places their hands gently on the body and the recipient takes as much energy as is needed. During a treatment most people feel a sense of wellbeing, peace and relaxation. 
                           Reiki energy is often felt as a gentle heat from the hands of the practitioner. 

Reiki is a gentle therapy suitable for most medical conditions and for people of all ages, including pregnant mothers, newborn, surgical patients, the frail and the elderly. 

I am a Reiki Master Teacher and Member of the UK Reiki Federation. As well as treatments, I also hold weekend Reiki Workshops, teaching the Usui Method. Courses are open to everyone. 
There are four levels, or Degrees. The courses take place over two days.

There should be a three month gap between Levels One and Two and a six month gap between Levels Two and Three.

Reiki sessions last for about an hour but initial sessions may take an extra half an hour. The cost is £30.
